The British heavyweight doubled down on his controversial remarks about being prepared to “kill” his opponent during a press event in Florida on midweek.

His words were initially uttered on the previous day when the boxer was questioned if he would show restraint against the social media star, replying that “if I can kill you, I'll kill”.

The upcoming bout against the YouTuber-turned-boxer has sparked debate over the risk involved and the physical disparity between the two athletes.

Tyson Fury Labels Joshua a “Classless Loser”

Former world heavyweight champion The Gypsy King branded Joshua a “disgrace” for his inflammatory language.

But Joshua, defended his mindset: “This is what I do, we fight. We have a license that permits extreme violence.

“I understand many people don't comprehend it but this is what my job is. I take pleasure in what I do. Whatever happens, happens - as long as my hand is held high, that's what's paramount, with all due respect.”

He continued, “That's just the mentality we have to have as warriors. I don't know if other fighters think that way. Maybe they're a bit more tame. The way my mind works. When you're in the squared circle, it's a dangerous thing. Everything can happen.”

“You pray your opponent exits the ring safely, but if they don't, you still have to go to bed knowing you just did your job. It was not personal.”

Paul's Incendiary Response

Jake Paul, a huge underdog in the heavyweight contest as a career lighter fighter, was equally combative in his retort.

“This is a modern day combat sport,” Paul stated. “I'm ready. I want his most powerful punches. I want there to be no excuses when it's all said and done. Let's kill each other.”

Joshua will face his opponent, 28, at Miami's arena in a fight many regard as a major mismatched contest, with some suggesting it should have been sanctioned as an non-professional fight.

The official fight will be fought over 8 three-minute stanzas using regular 10oz padded gloves, with a specified weight limit for Joshua.

“There's nothing in the contract, Joshua can attest to it. We're going to battle,” Paul insisted.

The former champion, sporting a valuable chain, humorously added, “The only thing in the agreement that got my interest was the money.”

Paul has claimed on his platforms that the total purse will be extremely large.
